Women knit a purl of a house in Hilmarton

Villagers in Hilmarton are frantically clicking their knitting needles together as part of their wacky bid to raise money for their church.

More than 30 knitting enthusiasts have been meeting up regularly since last month to knit a house.

The six foot by six foot house, complete with a garden fence, window boxes and a chimney, is set to be the main attraction at the village art, craft and music festival on the weekend of July 3 and 4.

Organiser Val Procter, 59, of Church Road, said: “Things are going really well.

“We are 481 bricks down, with 300 bricks to go.

“We’ve got some wonderful things to go in the house, it’s all very exciting.”

Among the items are a knitted chicken, complete with knitted eggs, and a knitted watering can.

Money from ticket sales and donations will go towards the upkeep of the village church.

The team are short of straw coloured wool to complete the thatching on the house.

Contact Mrs Procter on (01249) 760312 if you can help.
