Neston and Box Scouts mark 100 years

More than 250 people turned out to celebrate Neston and Box Scouts’ centenary at Selwyn Hall, Box on Sunday.

Members old and young came together for the celebrations on Sunday, and 1st Neston and Box Scouts group leader Brian Hunt said: “We set off 100 Chinese lanterns and there was at least two people to every lantern. We had loads of current members there, I would guess that about 150 current members turned up and 100 former ones.”

The activities included a trebuchet race, orienteering, fire lighting, river crossing and trekking outdoors, knots and pioneering and Brunel stove pipe hat making indoors, with an evening barbecue.

Mr Hunt said the troop managed to cover the costs of the day, raising £400 through a raffle and donations.
