Trowbridge youngsters get running for appeal

Pupils in Trowbridge have been putting on their running shoes to raise cash for this year’s Sport Relief appeal.

The town council’s Active Trowbridge sports coaches will visit 13 primary schools and Clarendon College over the next two weeks to encourage youngsters on their one-mile events in aid of the BBC appeal.

On Wednesday children from Holbrook Primary ran four times around the school to complete the distance.

Parent governor Sue Ellison said: “It was great fun and the kids did fantastically well. We even got a few parents to join in.

“There are 226 children at the school now so they did it in two stages and a lot of them were in fancy dress. The headteacher dressed as Einstein.”

A Sports Relief mile will be held at John of Gaunt School in Trowbridge next Friday, with prizes for the fastest and most creative entries, as well as for raising the most money.

PE teacher Michelle Gaskin said: “We are going to have every year group running a mile.

“Most of the teachers are taking part as well and a lot of them will be in fancy dress.”

The Active Trowbridge team will be hosting the official Trowbridge Sport Relief Mile in the town park on March 21.

Runners or walkers can complete the one, three or six-mile routes through the park from 10am.
