The largest room in Longleat House is getting a spring clean before one of the busiest periods in the estate’s calendar.
The Elizabethan house, near Longleat, belonging to Lord Bath, is undergoing a full spring clean, but now it’s the turn of the Great Hall – a more daunting prospect.
The cleaning is expected to take two weeks and is only possible by building a 30-foot scaffolding tower, which enables thorough cleaning from the ceiling of the Great Hall to the stone flags below.
Historic items being cleaned include the Civil War armour, 16th century wooden hammer beams, and giant Prehistoric Irish Elk antlers.
