Police believe stolen equipment could end up on internet

The public is being urged to keep a look out at local sales and on auction website eBay for camera equipment stolen at a mayoral event in Warminster.

Inspector Dave Minty, of Warminster police, said the theives who took the £8,000 worth of equipment from a stand being run by the town’s CCTV rooms, at the Assembly Rooms on February 27, would be looking to sell it on.

Equipment included two grey, silver and black Panasonic digital cameras, which were taken from a metal box, along with two tripods and leads.

Inspector Minty said: “It’s likely that the equipment will be sold locally or on eBay, so if anyone sees cameras matching their description then I would ask them to let police know.”

The equipment, which belongs to a Bristol firm, had been hired by the town council and was going to be used in presentations throughout the day.

And stolen right from under the noses of the Police, to boot! And now they are asking the public to track it down for them? What kind of a Police force is Inspector Minty running anyway? It seems to me that their usefulness at Crime prevention, is matched only by their optimism in thier own detection abilities!
The thieves have probably sold it all through the local Trade it, or even at a car-boot sale, secure in the knowledge that Warminster Police wouldn't know if their own arses were on fire.
