Council to spend an extra £1 million on pothole repairs in Wiltshire

Wiltshire Council says an extra £1 million is to be pumped into repairing the county's roads which have been badly affected by the severe winter weather.

The council had already agreed to increase spending on the county's roads by £650,000 in the budget for 2010/11 but has now allocated a further £1 million.

Council leader Jane Scott said: "It has been really difficult to find this extra money but we believe roads are a priority, so I’m pleased that we have been able to release this funding. The weather over the last two winters has been unusually bad and has caused severe damage to our roads."

Dick Tonge, cabinet member for highways, added: "With the improvements in the weather and this extra cash we can use our new equipment more effectively.

"The velocity repairer can fill and seal about 200 square metres of road defects each day as compared with the 18 square metres using conventional equipment. We intend to deploy a third unit which will significantly increase the repairs we can carry out."

The council has been criticised over the number of potholes in the county's roads and have been inundated with complaints.

The headline says that 31 million extra is to be spent on pothole repairs. Two things wrong with that: first, it's £1 million extra, the typist forgot to use the shift key; second, you don't repair a pothole, you repair the road by filling the hole. Otherwise, very good job reproducing the official Council press statement.

I think Derry Hill should open its own off-road course because the high street is nothing short of being disgusting! It seems the council found some money down the back of the sofa to supply those horrid speed humps but ran out when it came to actually make any repairs to the road surface. There was a couple of council men making "repairs" to the high street back in early February but, because of the sheer shoddiness on how it was done, the pot-holes reappeared within a week or so.

Could the council hurry up and fix the sunken drain grate near the petrol station on Trowbridge Road in Bradford, please? After going into it, my little car has trouble getting back out again!

I wonder if the council still has any officials with warbal gloming or climate change in their job titles / descriptions - if so - redundancy please or onto the road mending gang - and pronto!!

.
I see the WT has ramped down the "yer all doomed" AGW stuff - sad to see all the fraudulent and taxpayer funded "Action on CO2" sh1te knocking around though. It's amazing really - caught out on a lie and still repeating the same - worthless gits - never mind CO2 - what about the O2 thieves ??
