Barbury Horse Trials is aiming to become an attraction for all the family by incorporating the Wiltshire County Show.
The county show has had a chequered past moving around Wiltshire to a variety of venues including near Trowbridge and with varying success.
Country shows like the Bath and West and the now defunct Royal Show – abandoned last year because of falling profits – have been popular and in the days before they moved onto fixed showgrounds they were regular visitors to venues in Wiltshire.
Minette Batters, chairman of Wiltshire NFU and organiser of the county show said: “The Wiltshire County Show is back in 2010 for the first time in many years. The show’s aim will be portraying the vital role that farming and food production play in Wiltshire.”
The show will feature rural crafts, food exhibitions, cookery displays, heavy horses, rare breeds animals, working sheep dogs and terrier racing.
The Army will be having an assault course and paintballing, tanks and its Black Knights parachute display team.
Tthe show, on July 11, will raise funds for the Soldiers, Sailors and Airmen Families Association. The £15 entry will cover both events.
