staff and students at The John Bentley School in Calne have donated nearly 30 bikes to help African children get to school safely.
The school has collected 27 bikes for Bikes4africa, which gives them to youngsters living in remote areas.
The charity collects old bikes which are, with the help of partners HM Prison Service, refurbished by prisoners.
The bikes are then shipped over to Africa, the first consignment being sent to the Gambia in 2006. So far, the charity has helped almost 5,500 African children.
There is still a need for funds to help with the costs of sending the bikes to Africa – about £10 per bike. To contribute, send a cheque made out to bikes4africa to John Bentley School finance office.
