Police officer Adam Mulliss will swap walking the beat for pounding the streets next month when he takes part in the London Marathon.
PC Mulliss, who is based in Devizes police station, but lives in Calne, is joining the Mr Men and Little Miss team on April 25 and is hoping to raise £1,500 for the Children with Leukaemia charity in memory of a school friend.
The 29-year-old father-of-one said: “I decided I wanted to run the marathon as a personal achievement, as well as to raise awareness of the charity.
“When I was at George Ward School in Melksham, we had a friend called Elizabeth who passed away from leukaemia.
“When you are that young you just don’t realise what it is all about. As you grow up you can understand better and it really hits home.”
PC Mullis said he had never run 26 miles before. “I have only done a couple of half marathons but the training is going well and I am looking forward to it, although I’m a bit nervous,” he confessed.
“I have got family in London so they will be supporting me, as well as my wife and daughter.”
The Mr Men and Little Miss team members run the 26.2 miles in their trademark Mr Happy and Mr Tickle running vests.
Children with Leukaemia was set up by Eddie and Marion O’Gorman after their 14-year-old son Paul died from leukaemia. Just nine months later they lost their daughter Jean to cancer.
