Bowood unveils new play area for the under sevens

Visitors to Bowood this summer will notice a new addition to the adventure playground after a special play area was installed in time for opening at the end of the month.

The Partridge Play Pen, named after head groundsman Geoff Partridge, who celebrated his 25th year at the park earlier this year, has been built over the winter.

Mr Partridge and his team, have designed and built the new area especially for children under the age of seven.

He said: “I never thought I’d still be working here when I first joined. But the new playground has all come together really well and its great to see it all finished ready for the children.

“We looked at some other playgrounds last year and as a team we all sat down and thought we could do something like that, if not better, so we put all our ideas together.

“The hardest part was designing it for the age group and knowing how tall a five year old can reach – there was a lot of sitting on our bottoms and pretending our hands were on our elbows.

“It has been tested by a three year old and it all went well.”

The playground has been built with estate stimber and features log bridges, swinging log steps, stepping stones and balance beams, as well as specially carved animals.

Mr Partridge added: “With the carving side of things, we just fancied having a go really. The mole is still a work in progress as the saw broke on Saturday but I am still confident it will be finished in time for the opening.”
