Holt youth club faces cut in funding

A decision to cut the funding of Holt Youth Club came under fire from councillors at the Bradford on Avon Area Board meeting on Wednesday.

Last month, the club was notified that financial support from Wiltshire Council was to be withdrawn entirely. This was later reduced to a half cut in funding, equating to up to £3,000.

Speaking at the meeting, at St Laurence School, Holt parish councillor Martin Moyes said: “This doesn’t feel like an open consultation process. It’s been a telling process.”

The meeting heard from Wiltshire Council operations manager for youth development services, Kevin Sweeney, who said the cash available for youth services would remain the same but would be redistributed to even up levels of support in different areas.

He said: “Some people inevitably will not like the outcome, but it is fairer than it has been before.”

Wiltshire councillor for Holt and Staverton, Trevor Carbin, said: “We are reducing services people would like to see improved. This is wrong and is not something the council should be doing.
