CCTV operators have been praised in Warminster after helping to detain three offenders accused of using crowbars to break into shops in the town centre.
The incident happened at the Three Horseshoes Walk shopping precinct shortly after 11pm last Thursday.
Operators at Warminster and Westbury CCTV rooms in Dewey House, Warminster, raised the alarm after seeing three men allegedly trying to break into the complex and called in police at about 11.10pm.
Inspector Dave Minty, of Warminster and Westbury Police, said: “The guys at CCTV were fantastic.
“They kept watching the men and then assisted in detaining them even though two of the offenders had crowbars.
“The CCTV operators were extremely professional and went a step further than is expected of them.
“We work closely with CCTV and the Three Horseshoes Mall, which has been a target for a number of burglaries.
“We are taking these incidents very seriously. This shows how useful CCTV is in detecting crime.”
* Two 23-year-old men from Bath and a 31-year old man from Bristol have been charged with attempted burglary and will appear before magistrates in Chippenham later this month.
