Air Ambulance lands in Trowbridge Park

Wiltshire Air Ambulance landed in Trowbridge Park this morning to tend to a woman who suffered a suspected heart attack.

The ambulance landed at 10.40am, next to the bandstand, after Great Western Ambulance Service first received a call from a passer-by at 10.13am saying a woman had collapsed near the public toilets.

The woman is believed to be in her 40s and is now being airlifted to the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

By chance I witnessed this incident, the first response was by an ambulance crew and then the helicopter was called in and I saw the landing and taking off. And full credit to all those involved, the NHS is often criticised but these guys were superb. If anyone doubts the value of the Wilts combined police/ambulance chopper G-WPAS and the charity raising required to keep it flying - this answers the doubters. And the skill of the pilot is amazing - he landed in the fairly narrow grass strip used for football between the bandstand and the tennis courts, with trees on either side! But what impressed me most was the take-off, backwards!
The fact that the chopper's engines were switched off, rather than kept running for an immediate recovery, and the fact that we could hear the lady moaning, although stretchered, suggests to me that she is expected to recover. I'm sure we all wish her well.
