It’s a trolley good show!

10:28am Friday 23rd December 2005

A HAIR-raising dash along the supermarket aisles will mean a festive feast for one lucky Wiltshire Times and Asda competition winner this Christmas.

Nurse Amanda Tate, 39, won the chance to fill a trolley in a two-minute dash around the Trowbridge supermarket on Tuesday morning and grabbed more than £400 of goods.

She said: "I enjoyed doing it. I couldn't sleep the night before. It was very exciting and everyone was so nice. All I could hear as I went around was people cheering me on."

Miss Tate, of Frome Road, Trowbridge, entered the competition, which ran in the Wiltshire Times for four weeks, only once.

"I enter loads of competitions but I have never won anything until about a month ago when I won a book, and then this one," she said.

Miss Tate, who works in the operating theatre at the Royal United Hospital, in Bath, used the chance to pick up a new micro stereo system for her mother, Heather.

She then decided to concentrate on meat, grabbing two geese, one to provide Christmas lunch for herself and her parents and the other to give to her brother and his family.

She also chose several other joints of meat she can freeze for after Christmas.

"I concentrated on meat because it is the most expensive. I think I got enough to keep us going for about three months."

She also put selection boxes and packs of chocolates in the trolley in her two minutes, but didn't pick up a Christmas cake.

"They were so lovely. The manager came up to me afterwards and gave me a Christmas cake because I hadn't got one," she said.

Miss Tate's father, Gordon, has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer and she herself has also been ill.

She said: "This was just what the we needed to take our minds off things a bit. It came at just the right time."

To win the competition Miss Tate answered the question: How many bottles of wine do you have to buy to get an extra 10 per cent off at Asda?' She sent in a postcard with the right answer (six) and was randomly chosen from more than 1,000 entries.
