Trucker’s sci-fi rewrite of Bible

9:49am Friday 30th December 2005

A SWINDON lorry driver who always wanted to become a writer is having his first novel published.

Mark Fullick's book The Bible Two is available on the internet and can soon be ordered at two book stores in Swindon.

Mark, 42, of Gorse Hill, is delighted that his ambition has been realised.

He said: "I've been working on the book for many years. It started as a romance and ended up a science-fiction adventure."

He describes the book as Lara Croft meets Indiana Jones in space. In the story a character finds some interesting papers on a starship, translates them and calls them The Bible Two. Mr Fullick, married to Jill, 38, has two children, Victoria, 12, and Hannah, 10.

He doesn't believe anyone would be offended by his choice of title for his first published novel.

He said: "When people look at the back of the book it explains that it is science fiction.

"I don't think it will offend but I think any debate about religion is good." Mr Fullick was brought up in a religious family by his Jehovah's Witness parents. He said: "I don't hold to any faith. I have looked at many and drawn my own conclusions."

He has led a colourful life. He is currently a lorry driver on night-shifts but spent 15 years working for the Royal Mail and played drums and sang in various bands rejoicing in names such as Captain Scarlet and the Funky Mudman, Stick No Bills and Bombs in their Bellies.

But his current job is ideal for developing his new career.

He said: "Working at night gives me plenty of times for coming up with ideas and writing. I'm working on two other books already one is about government documents and the other is a horror story.

"I'd really like to be a full-time writer. It's what I've always wanted. I love the media and the arts.

"I just hope this book is successful enough to pay the bills and give me a year off work because then I could complete the other two books."

By mid-January the book can be ordered at Borders and Waterstones bookshops but it is currently only available on the internet. To order a copy of Bible Two for £10.30 visit www.lulu.com/content/171770
