While Lindsay Crowe searched for her Mr Right, she had no clue that he was living across the street from her. LYNDSAY SCANLAN spoke with our 2006 Advertiser Bride of the Year.
LINDSAY Crowe had lived opposite the man of her dreams for six years but she just didn't know it.
The 24-year-old would go out to her car each morning, in Islandsmead, Eldene, glance across the street and get into her car without even saying hello to Ian Wood.
But while he was on holiday in Greece Ian bumped into Lindsay's sister and revealed that he was secretly harbouring a crush on the primary school teacher.
And now the couple have won the Advertiser's Bride of the Year competition, which means they will be treated to an all-expenses paid £10,000 wedding.
When Ian, a 24-year-old customer services assistant revealed his crush Lindsay's sister gave him her mobile number and told him to call her straight away.
He was afraid Lindsay was out of his league.
But in spite of his fears he called her as soon as he got home to ask her out.
They couple went to the cinema but to begin with the date wasn't how they had first imagined it would be.
"We didn't really know what to say to each other," said Lindsay.
"I just happened to say I liked Judge Jules and that was when the ice was broken.
"Ian couldn't believe we liked the same music, from then on we had loads to say and got on really well."
The couple were soon madly in love with each other and had become inseparable.
It was hard to believe that they had been living so close for so long and had never even spoken.
They couldn't imagine a future without each other.
Sharing a passion for dance music the couple decided to jet off to Ibiza for a holiday. But Ian had plans far greater than a round the clock party.
One night they sat next to an illuminated water fountain in San Antonio.
Classical music filled the cobbled square as the water gushed from the huge structure.
"It was the most romantic place I had ever been," said Lindsay.
"But I didn't have a clue that Ian was going to propose to me."
Ian had come prepared weeks before jetting off he had bought a diamond ring.
Then he sneakily smuggled it into his aftershave box so that his future bride would not discover it while she was packing.
While they gazed into the night's sky listening to the music and watching the world go by Ian got down on one knee and proposed.
Now that they have won the competition Lindsay says they will be able to have the fairytale wedding they have dreamt of.
"My Nan had a stroke last year and all our lives have been changed because we are looking after her. This wedding will mean the whole family will have something to look forward to."
