Spurs know wins in their final two matches will secure fourth place.

But the fans face the agonising scenario of missing out on a place in the Champions League if Arsenal win the competition next month.

Arsene Wenger's side reached the final after grinding out a 0-0 draw at Spanish side Villareal on Wednesday night, progressing 1-0 on aggregate.

That scenario would be a terrible blow to Spurs, who outplayed their north London rivals at Highbury on Saturday for 70 minutes, clinching a 1-1 draw, courtesy of a Robbie Keane goal.

The result leaves Martin Jol's side four points ahead of the Gunners, having played a game more. Crucially, finishing fourth is still in their hands, with six points from their final two games enough to clinch fourth spot.

Tottenham host Bolton at White Hart Lane on Sunday, before travelling to West Ham for the final game of the season a week later.

And Jol said the team would continue to treat every game like a cup final in a bid to secure their highest ever Premiership finish.

He said: "Bolton are difficult to play against and it's not about direct football. They have more to their game, they can play the flanks and it will be a difficult game.

"We now have two games left and winning them would realise our ambition of finishing fourth. We have treated all recent games like cup finals and they have all been tight games where we have had to fight."

Saturday's battling draw at Highbury has secured UEFA Cup qualification next season at the very least.

Whether the club goes one step further and play in the Champions League depends on Arsenal's result in the Stade de France on May 17.

Jol added: "Everybody is proud of the team, following the draw at Highbury on Saturday, because we are now in the European competition next season and that was our first target.

"Some people have commented that we performed like the home team at Highbury and I've heard that has not happened in the past three years."
