Duncan Hames, the Chippenham consistuency MP, has announced his engagement to fellow Liberal Democrat MP Jo Swinson.
Mr Hames, who was elected in May, announced the news through his profile on the social networking website Facebook.
His partner, Miss Swinson, 30, has served as MP for East Dunbartonshire, in Scotland, for five years.
Messages from wellwishers have poured onto their profiles and fellow party officials also offered their congratulations.
Lib Dem activist and Corsham town councillor Isabel Langsford said: βIt is not a match made in heaven, it is a match made in parliament.
"I am absolutely delighted because Duncan and Jo are such lovely people. The support they give each other is just fantastic and I wish them all the best.β
Mr Hames' constituency includes the towns of Melksham, Corsham and Bradford on Avon.
