A police sergeant from Caln in America was given a taste of policing in Wiltshire last week – and even got to sample a traditional English bacon butty.
Sgt Barry Beach, who is from the Pennsylvanian town which is twinned with Calne, was given a tour of the Wiltshire Police Headquarters in Devizes by Sergeant Phil Connor, before being brought back to Calne to see the new police station.
His visit was part of the 40th anniversary celebrations of the Calne and District Twinning Association, which saw twinning partners from Caln, Charlieu in France and Engingen in Germany visit the town.
Sgt Connor said: “It was a good opportunity to share information.
“It was interesting to hear that they have a similar system to our mobile remote working, and we agreed that it was a benefit to be able to be out on the streets and update investigation logs and crimes without having to return to the police station.
“I even took him to a roadside café so he could sample the British bacon butty and he loved it.”
During the tour Sgt Beach saw police dogs in training, a demonstration by the armed response unit and the Wiltshire Police helicopter in operation.
Sgt Connor said: “Sgt Beach was very impressed with the helicopter equipment. He was also very surprised that British police do not routinely carry firearms.”
