The Leopards clawed their way to victory at one Trowbridge primary school’s sports day.

The 207 pupils at Newtown Primary School took part in everything from sack relay races to three-legged races and obstacle courses at their annual sports day, held last Wednesday.

Teams were named after big cats and included the tigers, lions, pumas and jaguars.

The sporting spectacle doubled up as a strawberry fair, complete with strawberries and cream, pink lemonade and hundreds of pink cakes, to raise help raise more than £400 for Cancer Research.

Parents attended the event and joined their children for a picnic on the school’s field.

Headteacher Tom Hill said: “The team which won overall were all awarded medals and a lot of the children received stickers.

“I came second in the dads’ race, but I did beat our sports teacher.

“The children had a really nice day.”

Newtown governor Lisa Cox is having her head shaved Ship Inn on Wednesday in aid of Cancer Research.

A sports day was also held at Holbrook Primary School in Trowbridge on Friday.
