A 19-year-old motorcyclist from Swindon, Daniel Frame, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving following a two-bike head on crash on the notorious Berwick Bassett bends on Sunday May 23 which resulted in the death of 60-year-old Nick Bishop from Calne.

Mr Bishop, 60, whose first grandchild was born just three and a half months previously, died from the injuries he received while Mr Frame, 19, was critically injured.

Daughter Maria Arnold, 35, of Quemerford, said: “I think that my brother and me will go along to court on the day to see if we can find any answers.

“I didn’t know the man’s name until yesterday. We don’t feel any real anger towards him. At the moment I think that the family have mixed feelings about it all. Really, I just think that we would like some answers about what happened on that day.”

Members of Berwick Bassett and Winterbourne Monkton parish council said the crash reinforced their demands for better advance signs for the bends and lower speed limits on the A4361 Swindon-Devizes road.

Wiltshire Council, the highway authority, has refrained from commenting on the crash involving Mr Bishop and another death last month pending the police investigations and outcome of inquests.

Mr Frame has been bailed to appear before South East Wiltshire magistrates in Salisbury next Thursday.
