Volunteers from Calne’s First Responders have received a cash boost after the area board donated £2,300 so they can expand their services.
The team is trained by the ambulance service and St John to respond to medical emergencies and members aim to be on the scene within three minutes to give treatment before an ambulance arrives.
Area board chairman Alan Hill said: “They really are heroes and heroines of the first order.
“They deserve all the praise they get. They are a wonderful resource for us.”
The money will be used to help the team push their service outwards to the areas around Calne, including Stanley Park, Yatesbury, Lower Compton, Heddington and Hilmarton.
Mr Hill said: “The money that we were able to donate will facilitate a growth in the services the Responders are able to provide, and hopefully this will mean saving more lives.”
Adrian House, team leader for the First Responders, welcomed the funding. He said: “This generous support will help the team buy additional valuable equipment.”
Calne’s tennis club also received £900 of funding from the area board.
