Corsham man facing assault charge

A 21-year-old man has been remanded in custody after admitting assaulting a man and burglary.

Paul Carey pleaded guilty to both charged when he appeared before a judge at Swindon Crown Court on Friday.

But a second man, 20-year-old Brian Paisey, is to face trial by jury on the same allegations after pleading not guilty.

Carey, of Dickens Avenue, Corsham, admitted unlawful wounding of David Dunscombe on Saturday June 19.

He also pleaded guilty to the burglary of a property on Pockeridge Road, Corsham, on the same day stealing a wallet and contents and other personal effects.

Carey had initially pleaded not guilty to the burglary but asked to be brought back from the cells to change his plea to admit what he had done.

Andrew Eddy, defending, said his client was keen to be sentenced but Recorder Richard Smith QC declined to do so saying he must wait until after the trial of his co-accused.

The judge remanded Paisey, of Green Close, Hullavington, in custody to Wednesday October 20 when he is due to face trial by jury.

He also remanded Carey in custody and told him he would be sentenced after the trial and ordered a pre-sentence report be prepared by the probation service.
