Just days after gypsies moved on to land at Methuen Park in Chippenham, it has been reported that the same group has taken over the car park at the Olympiad.
People living near the leisure centre in Monkton Park saw caravans move on to the land just before the weekend, and staff at the Olympiad have confirmed the travellers are still there.
Manager Jenny Christensen said: “There are still travellers on the car park, but we have not really heard anything from them, the council have been dealing with it.
“We contacted the council when they moved in because we do not own the land - it is owned by Wiltshire Council.
“As far as I know they are sorting it all out now.”
Members of the public are not pleased with the move, especially as the car park is a pay and display site.
Ian Fox said: “Having been in contact with Wiltshire County Council regarding why the multitude of cars and lorries have not been issued parking fines, I can get no sensible answer other than the 'traveller liaison' department is dealing with it.
“If I were to park my car as little as ten minutes over my allotted time, I would receive a parking fine.
“The vehicles in question are all UK registered so why should they not be subject to the same rules as everybody else?”
