THE HISTORIC Steam museum was taken over by scores of stalls promoting a healthy lifestyle as part of an event organised by the Great Western Hospital.
More than 40 displays on a range of health-related topics including everything from how to beat smoking, new visitor times at the hospital to preventing skin cancer, were set out for Foundation Trust members and the general public.
There were also mini-health checks by the hospital’s occupational health team, which proved hugely popular amongst the passing crowds, to relaxing hand and head massages from the carers support team.
Lyn Hill-Tout, chief executive at Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Organisers and those staffing the various displays have been working hard to put together interactive displays for our members to enjoy.
“Our aim is to explain to the public the work we do and to listen to their views about the services and care we provide.”
The show provided an interactive start to this year’s Annual Members Meeting which kicked off as the show came to a close.
Kevin Mcnamara, head of marketing and communications, said: “This is the first Healthy Living Show we have done, we wanted to show members of the public the things we have done over the past year, as well as the things we are going to do next year.
“It also gives people the chance to ask any questions or raise any issues of concern they may have.”
Unscheduled care matron Donna Bosson, who was manning a stand at the show, said: “We are here to raise awareness of learning disabilities because some of it is quite shocking.
“It is one of those areas that isn’t really talked about, so this is a good opportunity to meet with people.”
