Fashion by some of the biggest names in the industry, including Prada, Gucci, Hermes, Christian Dior and Yves St Laurent, is up for sale at Aldridges’ next auction in Devizes.

A collection of haute couture belonging to a White Russian Countess who lives in Mayfair has been entered into the next sale on Saturday September 18.

Among the items is the wedding dress in which her daughter, a debutante during the 1994 season, was married. The ivory silk dress was created especially for the occasion by Alberta Ferretti and originally cost £2,500.

An accompanying tiara by Basia Zarzycka cost £1,500 new and the matching shoes were commissioned from Jimmy Choo.

It was modelled exclusively for the Gazette & Herald by 18-year-old student Katy Goodship from Devizes.

But the wedding ensemble is only the tip of the iceberg of the fashion up for sale. A carpet dress by Vivienne Westwood is mentioned as being worn by the countess’s daughter in an article in a national magazine written at the time, and is here modelled by the Gazette’s graphic designer, Amanda Pawlak.

Among the coats up for sale there are two by Hermes, and an alpaca coat by Gucci. There are hats by Frederick Fox, Dolce & Gabbana and Chanel.

There is also a jacket and blouse by Gucci and items by Christian Dior, Yves St Laurent and Louis Vuitton.

Auctioneer Alan Aldridge said: “We are delighted to be asked to sell this unique collection.

“The lady does not want to be named but she lives in a seven-bedroom house overlooking the American Embassy in Grosvenor Square in London.

“She herself designed for Burberry and her husband was a designer for a major department store.

“Although the countess still lives in London her daughter recently came to live in Wiltshire.”
