Fire at factory in Westbury

Fire crews were called to the premises of Audience Systems Ltd on the West Wilts Trading Estate in Westbury this morning.

A small fire in a powder coat machine is causing concern because there is asbestos in the building.

In addition to fire crews from all over the area, the incident control unit from Devizes is in attendance.

From the scene Director of the company, Keith Ritson, said: “It’s a minor incident on a powder coat process.

“At this stage we don’t know if it’s an actual fire or just smouldering.”

To answer concerns expressed by cght36 ....
1. Audience Systems is over a kilometre from Hawkeridge Park.
2. It was windy today but the wind direction was south-west (blowing away from you).
3. My information is that the presence of the Incidence Control Unit was purely precautionary. There is absolutely NO risk to the public.
4. It is customary in the written English language to use capitalisation at the beginning of each sentence.

It maybe 1km by road but smoke clouds dont have to abide by the highway code and stick to the roads!!!! So get off your high horse and actually walk round Hawkeridge park and you will see that for yourself!!!

I do think, however, that smoke clouds do abide by wind direction. Nevertheless, concerning news still for those living south-west of the trading estate.

I'm not worried at all I don't live far away either, this is a very reputable firm and are very considerate of its neighbours. If for one second they thought there was any danger they would go round themselves and warn people if neccesary.
Also, if the fire crews had thought there was any danger i'm sure they would have warned people.

Just to put peoples' minds at rest, tests have been carried out by official bodies over the weekend and the suspect substance which was found in the insulation of the powder coat plant has been identified as Rockwool. This is NOT asbestos and is an eco-friendly product.
