Volunteers from around the county have pulled together to build a new Jehovah’s Witness meeting hall in the centre of Calne.

The hall took only two weekends to build with the help of 200 volunteers, and Witnesses will be able to start using it this week.

Gareth White, a Jehovah’s Witness Elder from High Penn, said: “We’ve had a lot of support with this building. The way it works is that we have the initial blueprints and we build the entire thing from the ground. It has been very exciting and we’re really grateful for all the support.”

The building, a type of prefabricated construction, replaces the former Kingdom Hall, in Ernle Road, which was knocked down prior to the rebuild.

“The whole thing, from the foundations to the wallpaper, went up in just two weekends,” said Mr White. “I think it looks really professional and very well-done.”

Professional builders led groups of volunteers and the only job left is to complete the lanscaping.

Mr White said: “Everyone has done a wonderful job.

“We’d like to say thank you to all, and sorry to the neighbours if we did anything to frustrate them during this process. We did our best to park away from residential streets and keep the noise down, and everyone was very welcoming to us. Most of all, I’d like to say thank you to all the volunteers who gave up their time to make this Kingdom Hall a reality.
