Supporters of Westonbirt Arboretum, which is owned by the Forestry Commission, are meeting this week to decide their stance on Government proposals to sell nationally owned forests.

Chairman of the Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum, Stephen Segar, said the group would meet on Monday to decide on a response.

He said: “We will meet on Monday for a briefing and to decide our response to the consultation.”

Westonbirt’s communications Manager, Katrina Podlewska, encouraged people to make their voices heard.

She said: “The consultation is not about specific sites.

“What happens to individual woodlands, such as Westonbirt Arboretum, will be determined by the outcome of the consultation.

“The public’s participation in the consultation is important and we would encourage them to take part.

“The Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum are considering their position with regards to the consultation and will meet in the next week to decide their response.”

To view the proposals and take part in the consultation visit www.forestry.gov.uk/england-pfeconsultation. The consultation runs until April 21.

Campaign group Hands Off Our Forest staged a rally at the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire last month to protest against the plans.
