More than 150 bikers descended on the King’s Arms in Hilperton on Sunday for the annual Easter charity ride in memory of biker Nick Wynne, who died in a motorbike accident nine years ago.

Father-of-five Mr Wynne, 30, who was killed in an accident at Hilperton Marsh in June 2002, regularly organised a charity bike run from the Kings Arms to Bristol Children’s Hospital.

After his death friends rallied around and carried on the tradition in his name. It has been growing in popularity each year with more and more riders taking part.

The bike ride is in its 12th year and saw 101 bikes turning out this year with around 150 bikers.

Malcolm Hardwick, who has been organising the event with his partner for the past three years, said he was delighted with how successful the day turned out to be.

He said: “It is just growing each year. Last year we had 85 bikes and this year we had 101 with at least 150 bikers in the car park.

“We handed over £445 to Bristol Children’s Hospital and about £600 worth of toys, colouring books and Easter eggs.”

Mr Hardwick, of Marston Road, said: “We had road marshals from the Mucky Dogs riders’ group which meets at the White Swan, who were fantastic. We would also like to thank Lovemead Conservative Club, Pig and Whistle pub in Melksham and Melksham Liberal Club for their support and donations, and The Waggoners MCC from Peasedown also gave us a large sum of cash and lots of toys.”
