La Bella Vita in Trowbridge took on the role of a wartime French cafe to help a local drama group on Saturday.

Trowbridge Players are staging ’Allo ’Allo, made famous by the BBC’s 85-episode sitcom, and used the cafe for an authentically European backdrop for some publicity material .

Originally written by Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft, the story tells the adventures of René Artois, a French cafe owner in a German-occupied town .The famous portrait of the ‘Fallen Madonna with the big boobies’ has gone missing and René, who knows more than he is letting on, is trying to keep both his German masters and Resistance allies happy, while concealing his liaisons with waitresses Yvette and Mimi from his wife.

Producer Sylvia Seaman said: “This is a hilarious stage show that has all the elements you expect and is a real romp of a comedy.”

The show opens at the Arc Theatre on Wednesday, with performances each evening until Saturday. Tickets at £8.50, concessions £6, are available from the theatre on 01225 756364 or 0845 2990476.
