More than £5,500 has been handed to good causes by Pewsey Carnival.

Prospect Hospice, Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Naomi House children’s hospice each received £1,000 from carnival funds. Wiltshire Search and Rescue and more than 40 churches, village halls and charitable causes also received donations.

Trophies were awarded to volunteers for their work in support of the carnival. Annmarie Martin won the Fred Phillips Cup, Trevor Mabbutt received the Len Goddard Cup, and Pewsey HasBeens the President’s Cup.

The Luce Cup, for best decorated home, was jointly won by Mr and Mrs Owen and Mr and Mrs Warborough.

Chairman Richard Giles was presented with a gold medal by long-standing committee member Don Andrews to mark his 50 years’ service on the committee.

Mr Giles thanked carnival sponsors, in particular the principal sponsor Pewsey Spar, as well all the supporters and workers.

Pewsey Carnival is running a creative workshop on Saturday, June 25, 10am to 4pm in Cooper’s Field, on Ball Road, Pewsey. Float builders and Wiltshire Scrapstore will on hand to give tips on how to build floats and make costumes using recycled materials.

Pewsey Vale Running Club, is donating £1,000 towards bands’ fees for this year’s procession.
