Staff at Kemble’s Cotswold Airport are bracing themselves for a record-breaking Cotswold Air show next month.

Rapid early ticket sales for the show, which is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Hawker Hunter jet, have seen numbers up on last year.

Event organiser Glen Moreman said prices had been frozen at last year’s level. “We’re absolutely delighted with the fantastic ticket sales so far and we are hoping that, if they continue at this rate, it could be a record year,” he said.

“The two-day format, which was introduced two years ago, seems to be winning favour and the theme of this year’s show is generating a lot of interest.

“Although we continue to build up the show year-on-year and the show has obviously grown since it first started, we always strive to retain an intimate family atmosphere.”

A highlight will be a spectacular Hunter diamond nine formation flypast. The show will also celebrate the 75th anniversary of the first flight of the Spitfire.

There will be other classic jets and the Red Arrows, who were based at the airport for 16 years, when it was known as RAF Kemble, are set to make their now annual return to their spiritual home.

Tickets for the June 18-19 event, which supports the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, are £19.50 for adults (£25 on the day), £5 for children aged six to 16, while fives and under are admitted free. Grandstand tickets are an extra £18.

They are available through www.cotswoldairshow.com and from the Malmesbury Tourist Information centre.
