A TEENAGER is hoping that a recording of her hitting the high notes will help raise hundreds of pounds for charity.

Contemporary and classical opera singer Eleanor Williams, 15, who won the Highworth round of Swindon Talent 2010, has recorded a four- track CD for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The disc was part of her prize for winning the competition and she said she is hoping to become a professional singer in the future.

“It is only a small step but it was so fun producing the CD,” said Eleanor, who attends Highworth Warneford School.

“Singing is exhilarating, I just love it. It makes me so happy just to sing on stage. Singing is exactly what I want to do, I would just love to be on stage every day.”

The CD includes covers of Pie Jesu, Waltz of my Heart, Oh my Beloved and Wuthering Heights.

Eleanor’s voice is inherited from her opera singing grandmother, Dorothy Comersall, who was thwarted in her passion to become a professional singer.

Dorothy’s family did not agree she should sing for a living and she went into the Army instead – but she still found time to sing in local clubs.

Her granddaughter, on the other hand, has total support from her family and fully intends to follow music as her career.

“The first time I performed was at a nativity play at infant school. I was picked to play Mary,” said Eleanor.

“It was the first time I sang in front of an audience and it all rose from there.”

The teenager also won Oxford Talent and performed in a show for Macmillan alongide former X Factor contestant Danyl Johnson as part of her prize.

Eleanor, who has achieved her Grade 4 in singing and plays the piano, won the Highworth heat of Swindon Talent when she sang a song originally performed by Camilla Kerslake and Gary Barlow called How Can I Keep From Singing.

She sang at the talent contest final at the Wyvern Theatre last summer and at a showcase in Shrivenham for Bees Knees Records.

Her mother, Lisa, said: “Since then she has wanted to do more and more. She has really taken off and instead of being nervous, really wants to get up and do it.’’ To buy the CD visit www.eleanorwilliams.co.uk.
