Three men have been hospitalised, with one 'critical', after a serious collision with a car in Minety on Saturday evening.

The walkers, aged 25, 26 and 30, all from London were struck by a couple from the Minety area who were driving in their silver Landrover Discovery along The Common at 6.50pm.

The walkers and the car were travelling in the same direction, north towards Minety.

The 30-year-old man is said to be in a critical but stable condition with serious head, chest and leg injuries. He was transferred to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford over night.

The 25-year-old and 26-year-old sustained minor injuries and were released from the Great Western Hospital in Swindon where they had been receiving treatment.

The accident happened 300 metres south of the Minety Crossroads at the B4040.

The Common was closed for four hours as specialist officers from the Serious Collision Investigation (SCI) team, based at Chippenham, poured over the scene for vital clues.

PC Alan Kyne, from the SCI team, said: "The three men were from the London area but had been visiting friends in Minety.

"The couple in the car suffered shock but were not physically injured.

"Any witnesses who have not already contacted the police are asked to do so."

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Serious Collision Investigation unit at Wiltshire Police by calling 101.
