Members of Pewsey Youth Council are appealing to villagers to help them find a suitable site for a skateboard park.

The youth council is the junior counterpart of the parish council and although it has no statutory duties, its members do get involved in community activities.

Youth council members have run up against a virtual brick wall with their attempts to find a suitable site in Pewsey for a skateboard park.

All the likely locations they have explored, including Pewsey Vale School, have proved to be unviable for various reasons.

Young people in Pewsey have been asking for help in creating a skateboard and BMX park for years, even before the youth council was set up three years ago with the encouragement of the parish council.

At its meeting on Tuesday, parish council representative Coun Anne Stokes urged the youth council, which has about a dozen members, to keep exploring all avenues and looking at any suggested sites.

Youth councillor Harriet Oliver said she had attended a meeting of the Pewsey Campus committee, which is looking at grouping community services around the leisure centre in Wilcot Road, and she said she was pleased to hear that the possibility of an indoor skateboard park was included in the discussions.

Mrs Stokes said: “The youth council was established to improve facilities for young people in Pewsey and to work alongside the parish council in improving community facilities in Marlborough.”

Youth Council chairman Adam Pratchett, a Year 13 student at St John’s School, Marlborough, said: “The idea of the youth council is for young people in Pewsey to have their say about what should be done.

“It can really turn their ideas into reality.

“But we really do need more brilliant ideas and opinions, which means we need more members.”

Last Monday, members expressed concern about membership levels because three of its current members will be leaving later this year to go to university, with a further three members leaving next year.

Anyone aged 12-18 who would like to join the youth council should contact Coun Stokes on (01672) 563309 for details.

Information about its activities should be appearing soon on the new Pewsey website that is being set up by the parish council.
