THREE Horses were killed after being struck by a car on the A36 between Warminster and Standerwick at about 11.30pm last night.
The woman driver of a Mazda car received minor injuries, although the car was damaged in the collision and removed with a recovery vehicle.
Two of the horses, who are believed to have escaped from a nearby field, were killed outright. The third had to be humanely put down by armed police.
Around 10 horses were loose on the road at the time of the collision. Police believe all the remaining horses have been recovered.
The road was closed for about three hours while debris was removed.
An investigation into how the horses came to be on the road is being conducted by Avon and Somerset Police.
