Hundreds of thousands of pounds are being poured into community facilities in Pewsey thanks to a community gain agreement with developers Redcliffe, who will be building 57 homes in the centre if the village.
Members of the parish council planning committee welcomed news of the donations under a Section 106 agreement with Wiltshire planners as they prepare to develop the Whatley’s site between the High Street and Broomcroft Road.
Refurbishment of the Heri-tage Centre, a museum of bygone days in the Pewsey Vale, will include a new roof at a total cost of over £100,000.
The centre is currently closed, its artefacts stored in preparation for the work, and when the refurbishment is complete the developers will sell it to the parish council for a nominal £1. It will be leased to the heritage centre trustees.
Redcliffe will also be giving more than £40,000 towards a casual play area; £52,000 for an equipped play space; just under £24,000 towards a sports pitch; and it give Wiltshire Council a capital sum of just over £80,000 for the future maintenance of the recreational areas.
Fourteen of the new properties will be affordable homes under the conditions of the planning consent.
Pewsey parish councillors unanimously agreed to take over ownership of the heritage centre building and thanked its curator Mike Asbury for all of his work in securing the agreement which guarantees the future of the popular facility.
