The power cut which struck just under 10,000 properties in Trowbridge yesterday (Tuesday) was caused by a safety trip switch on a high-voltage circuit.
Southern Electric said the cut, which happened between 11.45am and 11.55am, was not as a result of a fault but a slight surge in power which triggered the safety trip switch.
Once the power had been cut the firm said it was its procedure to wait 10 minutes before switching it back on.
The power cut affected many businesses as well as homes in Trowbridge, including Wiltshire College, Tesco Extra at County Way and the Wiltshire Times’ Duke Street office.
