Wiltshire College is seeking nominations for its annual Adult Learner Awards.

The college is looking for people whose approach to learning, or remarkable achievements through learning, is inspiring others.

The awards are open to nominations from all learners, companies and training providers operating within Wiltshire.

Awards will be presented at ceremony on May 17 at the Arc Theatre, at Wiltshire College Trowbridge.

There are seven categories of awards, including Work Based Learner of the Year, Skills for Life Learner of the Year, Higher Education Learner of the Year, Mature Learner of the Year, Inspiring Others to Learn Tutor Award, The Enterprise Learning Award and Inspiring Learning Project.

All nominations will also be considered for the overall award of Wiltshire Adult Learner of the Year 2012.

Last year’s overall winner was Trowbridge mum-of-two Claire Silk, who left school with no qualifications.

Despite severe dyslexia she went through a preparation for work course at the college which improved her literacy, and helped her get a job at Airsprung in Trowbridge. She then continued her studies, working towards a care qualification and got a job as a carer for adults with mental disabilities at The Down in Trowbridge.

Bev Flanagan, Wiltshire College’s vice principal for enterprise, said: “Learning can change your life.

“This is the fourth annual Wiltshire Adult Learner Awards that Wiltshire College has organised and we have heard some astounding stories of how our nominees’ lives have changed for the better through learning and developing themselves.

“If you know of someone who has changed their life through learning, then please nominate them. This is a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate their success. ”
