WHEN Anna Wilkins and her friends tucked into their KFC chicken meal, what they found was far from finger-lickin’ good.

The Farmors School pupils, who were at KFC at the Greenbridge Retail Park on Tuesday evening, discovered what they thought was a chicken brain in their £4.99 box of Kentucky Fried Chicken.

The find has now been confirmed as a giblet by the company, but Anna said it had put her off the fast food venue.

“I screamed ‘it’s a brain’. One of my friends was still happily tucking away in to her piece,” she said.

“I used my straw to pick at it, it was horrible. It was supposed to be a chicken thigh.

“I said to them ‘do you mind telling me what is in my chicken?’. They said to me it is bone marrow. If you Google bone marrow it’s definitely not. They said they could offer me another piece of chicken but I didn’t feel like it.”

The 16-year-old and her two friends visited the restaurant before going to see a film at Empire Cinema.

“It has put me off KFC, I don’t really want to go back in a hurry. I was a bit shocked,” she said.

“I spoke to the woman on the counter and she looked pretty horrified. She got the manager to come and speak to me.

“My mum rang up KFC and asked what it was and they said it was bone marrow too.”

Anna, who lives in Fairford, said she has put photos on Facebook and has had a big response.

“Everyone has been saying it’s disgusting,” she said.

“I found the whole thing quite funny, I wasn’t expecting it.”

The find comes 18 months after Barry Humphries, of Drakes Way, found what he thought was a chicken brain in his KFC at the same store, but it was confirmed by the company as a kidney.

Mr Humphries, a self-employed block paver, also said he was so disgusted he was forced to miss a few days’ work.

A spokesman for the franchisee that operates KFC in Swindon, said: “We always try to ensure the highest standards in all of our restaurants, and unfortunately it seems on this occasion, a giblet and not a brain as claimed, was not removed in the preparation process.

“We’re very sorry about Miss Wilkins’ experience and while there was no health risk, we agree it was unsightly, and we will be contacting the customer to offer an apology and a goodwill gesture.”
