A children's centre in Trowbridge is celebrating after being declared “outstanding” by Ofsted in its first inspection.

4Children’s Bellefield’s Children’s Centre, in Windermere Road, received the overall outstanding assessment from Ofsted, alongside a grading of outstanding for its capacity for sustained improvement.

The centre was inspected on March 21 and 22 and was given the outstanding rating in every single aspect of the assessment criteria.

They range from the extent to which children are safe and protected, to how much children and parents enjoy and achieve educationally and in their personal and social development.

The centre, run by national charity 4Children, opened in 2008 and became a fully accredited children’s centre in 2009. It provides help and support families of children aged up to five.

Kerry Harman, Bellefield’s manager, said: “We are overjoyed at being awarded an outstanding rating in every aspect of the assessment criteria.

“I can’t tell you; when I found out I nearly fell off my chair. It’s due to the dedication and all the hard work we’ve been doing over the last three years.

“This signals a promising future for our children’s centre and we look forward to developing our centre further.”

Charles Ellis, deputy chief executive of 4Children, said: “This assessment is another fantastic contribution to the high standards being accomplished among 4Children’s various children’s centres.

“The team at Bellefield have worked endlessly to ensure that families are provided with a range of services to meet their needs and, as this assessment makes clear, it has allowed families to become more socially and emotionally secure.

“This is exemplary work that the team should be proud of, as we at 4Children are.”
