Fears for missing former St Laurence School teacher

2:28pm Tuesday 22nd May 2012

The family of a former St Laurence School teacher who has gone missing are appealing for help from farmers and walkers in the area to find his car.

John Dobson, know to family and friends as Alan, 62, left his home in Bear Flat, Bath, early on Sunday morning, May 20, taking the family car.

It is like the one pictured, a black Peugeot 206 hatchback, registration number BG51 BYM.

Detectives say they are increasingly concerned for Mr Dobson’s welfare. He has health problems and is known to be depressed.

Today his wife Liz said: “Obviously my son and daughter and I are desperately worried about Alan. We love him and just want him to come home safely.”

Mr Dobson is a retired maths teacher who worked at St Laurence, Bradford on Avon.

He is a keen walker who enjoyed visiting the countryside and beauty spots in the Bath area.

Det Con James Muir said: “Officers have carried out extensive searches, including using the force helicopter, but so far we have found no sign of Mr Dobson or his car. The longer he is missing the more concerned we become for his safety.”

Mr Dobson is 5ft 11ins tall, of slim build with dark hair. He may be wearing a green anorak and brown walking shoes.

Police want Mr Dobson himself, or anyone who sees him or his car, to call them on 101.
