Devizes police are investigating offensive graffiti daubed on the outside of the Masonic Hall in Devizes at the weekend.
The words ‘Mason equals Satan’ were sprayed in yellow paint on the doors of the hall and also on a nearby wall, although the perpetrator had a false start on the second group of letters. It is thought the damage occurred at around 9.30pm on Sunday.
The criminal damage is also thought to be connected to offensive graffiti on the parapet of the former railway bridge on Potterne Road, which referred to a local estate agents. Contractors from Wiltshire Council removed the graffiti on Monday morning.
James Harrison, a resident of Morris Lane, said: “We have never had graffiti in the 21 years I have lived in Morris Lane.”
