LOWER Stanton St Quinton international Kitty King kept up her fine recent strike rate with a double win at the Stonar School BE (British Eventing) one day event at Atworth.

Riders starved of competition runs due to the wet summer turned out in force for the event, which ran sections from BE90 to Novice level.

King, who has represented Great Britain at both junior and senior European level, headed a BE100 section on Ben Walden’s seven year old first season horse Anxiom.

The pair were equal first in dressage with Membury international Laura Collett and Nankin Wn who dropped out of contention with two down in the show jumping phase.

Anxiom, an ex-show jumper, was also a winner at the Portman BE event back in April.

King, who won a section at the recent Barbury Horse trials, made it a double with victory in the four year old qualifier, which leads on to the British Young Horse Championships in October.

She was on the youngster Andrassy Echo, who was at his first ever event.

“Andrassy Echo was an absolute superstar – he started with a lovely dressage test to score 30 and led from the start,” she said.

“He jumped very well but had one slightly green moment show jumping, with one down. He then jumped a very grown up and confident clear cross country but, as he is owned by my husband, he is now unfortunately for sale.”

Pewsey-based Roo Fox, daughter of past Olympic pentathlete gold medallist Jim Fox, topped a Novice section, just under a mark clear of her nearest rival on The Little Bay Horse, a French-bred six year old scoring his third win of a highly successful season.

Calne’s Helen Cole picked up a second on her Novice ride Castleblayney Gold, the best BE result to date for the six year old.

West Littleton’s Harry Meade, another four star rider, was also among the BE100 winners on the Irish-bred grey Away Cruising.

The five year old horse, in his first BE season, was just slightly closer to the optimum time cross country to see off a strong challenge from Acton Turville’s Lucy Dixon.

Former Stonar School pupil Claudia Saksida was unlucky not to win the BE90 Open section, in what was her first run of the BE season.

She led after dressage on Vladimir but one rolled pole show jumping was enough to push her back to third.

Edington 21 year old Charlotte Callaway, a winner at Stonar in 2010, was again victorious in a BE90 section.

Her part on Earl Galante, who completed on a dressage score of 29.5.

Hannah Chase, a successful member of the Avon Vale Pony Club based at Calne, headed her BE90 section on the six year old Chase the Artist, who pulled up from fifth after dressage thanks to faultless jumping performances.
