Trowbridge used to be a very successful mill town and has lots of historical properties still around.

The last place i would hold a tourism meeting would be in The Shires which is dying on its feet. I have often wondered why shops are moving out and starting up elseware in town?

I hope this meeting is attended by those who think they are Trowbridge visionaries as the may learn a few very valuable lessons.

The Optimist: shops are moving out of the Shires because the management company seems to think that Trowbridge is in West London and charges rents accordingly.

Tourists??? Maybe BOA has tourists because its clean and tidy. Trowbridge ( LOL county town of wiltshire LOL) is awful. Main shopping centre is Barbershops, phone shops and one cafe..WOW. The shires is dead man walking...rent is the concern but how on earth the shires manager can't know that is beyond me. Derelict buildings like Bowyers and peter blacks just adds insult to injury. River way walk is an out of bounds mugging route at night or day. Town centre is dying slowly, complaints even about street entertainers volume is unbelievable!! So, with that in mind the council agree's a huge Hotel of 120 rooms?? Must know something we don't. I could go on but hey it's not all bad...or is it.

bevjon - jigsaw 5 message makes me feel really sad. Lived in Trowbridge at the Castle Inn for many years and Trowbridge was quite a pleasant town in those days - how it seems to have changed. Came back about 10 years ago and it seemed to be going down hill then - now it seems as if it has given up the fight judging by the comments - for the County Town this is really unacceptable - cannot believe that so much has gone and it looks like nothing ever gets replaced - perhaps tourism comment not so off the wall - they "may" be able to help - do hope so.

The demise of Trowbridge is solely down to those responsible for town planning. Yet the same types are voted in year after year. Change that, you change Trowbridge. Don't change it, don't complain.

We are having planning battles up here - South Cheshire - they want to build, build and build with a small town town that cannot sustain it - seems to be prevalent all over the UK - they seem to be going backwards and not looking to the future - which is bit grim with recession etc - more sensible thinking required.
