Two Wiltshire men will appear at North West Wiltshire Magistrates’ Court next Friday, in connection with a drugs raid at a Bradford Leigh farm when about £225,000 worth of cannabis was seized.

The raid, part of a joint operation between Wiltshire Police and Avon and Somerset Police, found about 600 plants in various stages of growth at Fairfield Piggeries, Leigh Road, on January 25.

Adam James, 22, of Skylark Road, Melksham, has been charged with being concerned in the production of cannabis. Michael Stephen Smith, 61, of Main Street, Keevil, has been charged with the production of cannabis.

Both men are on bail and set to appear at the magistrates’ court on August 17. No action has been taken against two 60-year-old men arrested earlier in the investigation.

Cannabis plants were found in six buildings at the Bradford Leigh farm, all linked by a water hose.

Some of the plants were hidden in a room behind a door made to look like a bookcase.

About 30 officers took part in the operation, including two dog units, the dedicated crime team and other support teams.

During the Fairfield Piggeries raid, the armed response group also seized seven guns.

The Bradford Leigh cannabis factory was one of the biggest found so far in the west of Wiltshire.
