A UNIQUE routine combining reggae and sign language has won a troupe of performers from Swindon a place in the televised finals of the popular Sky1 show Got to Dance.

The Hotsteppers Dance School, run by Natasha Dixon, made it through a nerve-wracking first audition for the third series of the show after deciding not to follow the ‘urban’ craze made famous by acts like Diversity and Flawless on Britain’s Got Talent.

The team of six will brave the cameras later this month to try and impress JLS heart-throb Aston Merrygold, former Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt and Diversity’s Ashley Banjo.

Natasha, 31, said: “We went to the first audition in front of the producers and the children were nervous because everyone was doing street dance while we doing a more contemporary routine.

“I put together something which raises awareness of people with disabilities and shows how everybody is different. It incorporates sign language and uses Bob Marley’s Redemption Song.

“The producers didn’t say anything after the audition but they rang back later and gave us some good feedback. It’s very exciting to go through to the next round.”

Got to Dance, which will be aired in January, was won by the innovative Prodijig last time round, with the group winning £250,000 with a stunning tap routine.

Natasha, of Park South , fitted in the audition in Bristol last month alongside rehearsals for her role as a dancer in the Paralympic opening ceremony last week.

She was inspired to taking part in the dazzling show by Corey Cummings, whose family are raising money for an operation called selective dorsal rhizotomy. Natasha appeared as a protester in the empowerment scene in a newsprint costume.

The dancer is now looking forward to seeing how audiences react to the performance when it is screened in the new year.

“People will either love us or hate us,” she said.

“But it doesn’t matter as we have chosen to step out of the box and be different from everybody else.”

The Hotsteppers are the latest Swindonians to vie for fame on reality TV. X Factor hopeful Jahmene Douglas is in the boot camp phase after sailing through the early rounds of the hit ITV show earlier this month.
