Swimming sensation Stephanie Millward was welcomed home to Corsham by a huge crowd of around 400 people last night (Monday).
The former Corsham School student, who took four silver medals and one bronze medal at this summer’s Paralympic Games, was presented with flowers by Corsham Town Chairman Peter Anstey, at the event which took place at Springfield Leisure Centre, before signing autographs and posing for pictures with the town’s residents.
She said: “The reception has been wonderful, absolutely wonderful. There are people still waiting here after half an hour just to get a signature - it is just amazing.”
This week, the swimmer, who has multiple sclerosis, has been visiting schools in the Corsham area and said she hopes her achievements will inspire Wiltshire’s next generation of Olympians and Paralympians.
Councillor Anstey said: “We are proud to welcome Steph back to Corsham after her success. We have all got used to watching her doing the town proud at the Paralympics and her medal tally is quite magnificent.”
