A charity dance at Marlborough Town Hall next month will raise funds for the local life saving work of St John Ambulance.

The dance on October 20, featuring the band Celebration, is being organised by volunteers from the charity’s Pewsey Division and Marlborough Community First Responders, volunteers who provide emergency medical aid in the Marlborough area ahead of the arrival of an ambulance.

Organiser Kev Dickens said: “At last year’s dance everyone had a fantastic time while knowing they were helping us to provide a service which is so often the difference between life and death.”

The money raised from this year’s event will go towards equipping the local community with basic first aid skills as well as supporting the Community First Responders and local St John Ambulance volunteers.

The event will also provide an opportunity for people to find out more about learning first aid and volunteering.

Mr Dickens said: “Our research shows up to 140,000 people a year die needlessly in situations where first aid could have saved them. We’re determined to change that appalling statistic by getting as many people as possible to learn first aid.”

The evening starts at 8.30pm. Tickets are £10 for adults and £8 for concessions and will be available from the White Horse Bookshop and Carrie’s Hairdressers in Marlborough High Street.
